IDP’s Owens to visit meeting of Perry-Area Democrats Wednesday

June Owens of Des Moines, first vice chair of the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP), will attend Wednesday night's meeting of the Perry-Area Democrats at 5:30 p.m. at the Hotel Pattee.

June Owens of Des Moines, first vice chair of the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP), will attend Wednesday night’s meeting of the Perry-Area Democrats at 5:30 p.m. at the Hotel Pattee.

The meetings of the Perry-Area Democrats are free and open to the public.

Owens was elected first vice chair in December 2019 after previously serving as second and third vice chair. She is the first African American to serve as a vice chair for the IDP and the first to serve as a member of the Democratic National Committee from Iowa.

Owens is also the Affirmative Action Chair for the Polk County Democrats. She worked in 2016 on the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton and the Congressional campaign of Jim Mowrer for Congress campaign and is a member of such community organizations as the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute (member of the Board of Governors) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Attendees are welcome to stay for a 6:30 p.m. dinner following the meeting.
