Workers added some of the final elements to the half-million-dollar reconstruction of the Jim Kaufman Track at Perry High School Saturday when they painted lane lines and related markings.

In February the Perry School Board hired Larson Engineering Inc. of West Des Moines to redesign the cinder track, which was last rebuilt in 1996. Contracts totaling $526,153 were awarded in April to J. B. Holland Construction of Decorah and Fisher Tracks of Boone.

The track was dedicated Sept. 13, 1996, as the Jim Kaufman Memorial Track in honor of the longtime Perry teacher and coach who died while jogging in April 1995.
