The 190-acre Woodward Eco Business Park is a shovel-ready certified site that is fully set with utilities and other infrastructure.

Grading is underway on the north side of Iowa Highway 141 near the Woodward sign at the Iowa Highway 210 interchange probably in connection with the planned warehouse development.

The Woodward City Council unanimously approved a site plan Monday night for a huge warehouse project in the Woodward Eco Business Park.

Project Hawk, as the deal is called at present, will involve “1,080,000 square feet of industrial logistics warehouse space” on 120 acres, according to Alex Lynch, executive director of the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance. The warehouse could “potentially employ 1,000 people,” he said.

“I hope I’m not understating the case when I say this is a fantastic project for Woodward and the region,” said Lynch, who added that a non-disclosure agreement prevented him at present from identifying the company looking to locate its warehouse in Woodward.

He said the company liked the eco-friendly aspect of the location and that it was a shovel-ready certified site. The Woodward Eco Business Park was certified in 2018.

Construction will begin immediately, and the projected completion date is September 2022, he said.

“The site plans were approved, and we’re feeling optimistic about it, but we’re still under a non-disclosure because it’s not a finished project yet. So I don’t want to get too excited and start celebrating before there’s anything to celebrate,” Lynch said.

The 190-acre Woodward Eco Business Park was a pilot project and the first of its kind designed to meet the unique needs of companies looking to reduce their environmental impact. The green business park lies within a 463-acre plan that also envisions a sustainable housing development, green space and support services.
