
Four seniors were honored by the Perry volleyball team Thursday prior to their HOIC contest with Nevada. Saluted for their devotion to the Jayette program were Kimberly Castillo, Valerie Contreras, Jayna Kenney and Peyton Tunink.
Once play began the focus turned to whether the hosts could capture their first HOIC win, but their visitors had different plans and departed with a 3-0 victory. The Cubs claimed the sweep on scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18.
Ashley Cerna had eight kills for Perry and Kathryn West seven, with Callie Steva recording five kills, Tunink three and Taylor Atwell one. Atwell distributed 21 assists, Kenney two and Cerna one.
Addison Huntington, Cerna and Tunink all had six digs apiece and Contreras and West four each, Atwell three and Kenney two.
Perry was 44-of-50 (88 percent) behind the serving line in the match. The team tallied three aces.
Atwell was 9-9-1, West 7-8-1 and Steva 7-9-1 serving. Kenney finished 9-of-9, Tunink 6-of-6, Cerna 4-of-5, Castillo 2-of-3 and Contreras 0-for-1.
Perry will face host DC-G Tuesday in a Class 4A Region 2 First Round match as postseason play begins. The victory advances to face host North Polk Oct. 21.
