A Des Moines man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly drunkenly punching a female in a West Des Moines strip club.
Christopher Brent Smith, 29, of 3514 50th St., Des Moines, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and public intoxication.
The incident began about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 6200 block of Raccoon River Drive in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a call from Smith, who said “that he was assaulted by Beach Girls staff,” according to court records.
The officers, arriving and investigating, determined that Smith allegedly “attempted to punch a bouncer in the face,” instead “striking a female across the face” and “causing a black eye” to the victim, according to court records.
Multiple witnesses stated that Smith “was the aggressor” in the incident, according to court records.
Smith allegedly presented to the officers with “blood shot watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath,” according to court records.
Smith was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,300 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
Smith was convicted of public intoxication in 2010 in Johnson County District Court. He was convicted of public intoxication in 2011 in Johnson County District Court. He was convicted of public intoxication in 2012 in Johnson County District Court. He was convicted of third or subsequent offense public intoxication in 2014 in Johnson County District Court.
