The tornados and severe thunderstorms that tore through west-central Iowa Wednesday night largely passed over Perry, leaving only fallen limbs and a downed power line at Willis Avenue and 14th Street.

Storm sirens sounded several times, beginning about 5:15 p.m.

Plywood was dislodged about 6 p.m. from the Willis Avenue side of the storefront at 1104 Second St., which has been under construction intermittently since 2017. Perry Public Works staffers and local volunteers were seen returning the plywood to the building.

A semi-tractor trailer overturned on Iowa Highway 144 near B Avenue in Boone County about 5:45 p.m. The driver was transported to the Dallas County Hospital by Dallas County EMS.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Perry First Responders and Perry Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
