Natalie Christy Betancourt, 22, of Des Moines was arrested Thursday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse-impeding flow of air/blood.

A Des Moines woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly strangling her boyfriend in the Jordan Creek Town Center neighborhood.

Natalie Christy Betancourt, 22, of 109 E. 15th St., Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse-impeding flow of air/blood.

The incident began about 4 p.m. Thursday in the 7100 block of Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines.

According to court records, Betancourt “knowingly and unlawfully committed domestic with strangulation by impeding the airway of” the victim, who “had scratch marks on
his neck.”

Betancourt “admitted to getting in an argument with the victim,” but she said that she did “not remember putting her hands on his neck,” according to court records.

Betancourt was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to her release on her own recognizance. She is scheduled for arraignment March 3 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
