W-G cagers drop set to Pleasantville

The Woodward-Granger boys had their season end Monday with a loss to Interstate-35.

WOODWARD, Iowa — Visiting Pleasantville prevailed on both sides of a WCAC twin bill over host Woodward-Granger Friday, a day after the W-G fell to visiting Grand View Christian.

The W-G girls (7-10, 5-6) dropped a 59-32 decision to Pleasantville (10-8, 5-6) on the heels of a 48-40 setback to Grand View Christian (7-9), with the Hawk boys (1-14, 1-11) falling by a 61-25 final to the Trojans (9-7, 6-5).

The guests were out to a 26-13 halftime lead in Friday’s girls game, with a 17-4 third quarter in favor of the Trojans creating a 43-17 deficit for the Hawks.

Grace Deputy led W-G with 14 points, with Darby Nixon adding nine and Rian Jamison six. Libby Grell had two points and Lexi Bogardus one.

Nixon, who sank six free throws, joined Jamison in making a single 3-pointer.

Thursday’s girls contest was a much closer affair, with the teams knotted, at 20-all, after two frames of action. The Thunder used an 18-8 spurt in the third frame to open a 38-28 lead, and the Hawks were not able to complete the comeback.

Jamison had a season-high 13 points, with Bogardus adding 10. Deputy chipped in seven points, Nixon six, and Kenzie Dresback and Georgia Simmons two apiece.

Nixon sank two treys and Bogardus one in the loss.

Pleasantville held leads of 22-3 and of 41-11 after each of the first two quarters in the boys game Friday.

Mason Scheve had 25 points and Dayson Leerhoff 16 to pace the Trojans.

Statistical information from the W-G boys was not available.

W-G will host Interstate-35 Monday for a WCAC set postponed from Jan. 14. They will then host Panorama Tuesday and Van Meter Friday.
