JEFFERSON, Iowa — The Perry girls completed a season sweep of Greene County Tuesday, with the host Rams making it a sweep of the Bluejays in a pair of HOIAC contests.
The Jayettes (7-10, 4-8) were fueled by a 35-point explosion from junior Lydia Olejniczak while the Bluejays (2-16, 0-12) sank eight 3-pointers but were simply outscored in suffering their loss.
Perry turned a 10-7 first quarter lead into a 21-11 halftime edge over the Rams (1-16, 0-12). The guests ended any threat of an upset by posting a 22-9 scoring bulge in the third quarter, a rush which opened a 43-20 gap on their way to a 52-36 victory. The seven victories are the most in a season for Perry since the 2016-17 team finished 16-5 overall.
Olejniczak splashed one 3-pointer and hit 10-of-14 free throws (all in the second half) en route to her dominating performance.
Perry received 13 points from Jayna Kenney, with three points from Maci Tunink and a free throw form Cynthia Aguirre capped the scoring list.
Greene County was led by 15 points from Emma Hoyle and 12 points and 15 rebounds from Brianna Hebben.
The two teams had met, Dec. 17, in Perry, with the Jayettes winning, 48-22, while the Ram boys were 60-40 victors in their first meeting before posting an 88-49 win Tuesday.
Greene County (9-8, 8-4) spurted to a 22-5 lead after eight minutes in the boys game, and held leads of 35-16 after two frames and of 61-38 after three. A 27-11 fourth quarter helped expand the final difference.
Zander Mahler had 10 points and Geren Kenney nine for Perry. Matthew Booker added eight points, Drake Levan and Kaelen Davis seven apiece, Owen Myers six and Caden Steva two.
Kenney sank three 3-points, Davis and Mahler two each and Levan one.
The Rams drained 14 treys in their win. Richard Daugherty led all scorers with 17 points, with Jesse Miller and Bryce Stalder scoring 15 points apiece.
Daugherty and Stalder each had three 3-pointers and Miller two to power the long-range attack.
Perry visits Saydel Friday for a HOAC twin bill, with the Jayettes playing a girls-only, varsity-only contest against visiting Baxter at 1 p.m. Saturday.
