Perry honored their seniors in several activities Tuesday, but the occasion did not district Nevada, who won both ends of their HOIAC cage battle.
The Cubs (13-9, 10-4) slowly pulled away from the Jayettes (8-12, 4-8) for a 51-36 win in the opener, with Nevada (14-5, 11-2) in command throughout in charging to an 85-40 victory over Perry (2-18, 0-14) in the boys game.
Perry trailed only 24-19 at the half in the girls contest, but saw their deficit grow to eight points by the end of the third quarter as Nevada posted a 35-27 lead. The guests were then able to outscore the Jayettes, 16-9, down the stretch to record the victory.
Lydia Olejniczak led all scorers with 21 points. Jayna Kenney had nine points, Maci Tunink three, Litzy Ramirez two and Callie Steva one. Olejniczak sank three 3-pointers and Kenney one.
Alex Arnaud had 16 points to pace the Cubs, with Shelbi Hazlitt adding 12 and Emma Strottman 11.
Any drama was over early in the second game as Nevada burst to a 30-6 lead after only eight minutes of play. The margin stood at 44-14 at the intermission and at 67-34 after three quarters.
Zander Mahler had nine points for Perry, with Holden Smith scoring eight points and Drake Levan six. Perry received four points from Matthew Booker, three from Kaelen Davis and two apiece from Geren Kenney, Owen Myers, Kaleb Lyddon, Abe Ruiz and Tyler Devilbiss.
Mahler splashed two 3-pointers and Davis and Smith one each.
Five treys helped Jacob Khounsourath lead all scorers with 19 points, with James Edwards adding 17 for the Cubs. Spencer Grant (15), Ty Dittmer (11) and Carson Rhodes (10) all reached double-digits in scoring as well.
The Perry teams will travel in separate directions Friday, with the Jayettes visiting Webster City while the Bluejays drop in on South Tama County.
