Jayettes, Hawks, Panthers prepare for postseason

Postseason routes revealed for girls hoops teams.

Wednesday’s release of the Class 4A and 5A postseason brackets completed the list of girls basketball teams wondering what route lay before them in playoff action.

Perry (8-12) will host Des Moines Hoover (1-19) Feb. 16 in the first round of the Class 4A Region 7 bracket. The winner will visit ADM (10-11) Feb. 19. Perry defeated DMH, 56-22, in their first game of the season before falling, 59-40, in Adel Dec. 20.

The winner of Webster City at Boone visits top-ranked DC-G Feb. 19 in the top half of the bracket. The Regional Final will be hosted by the highest remaining seed Feb. 22. All games are 7 p.m. starts.

Play begins in 2A Region 7 Saturday, with Madrid (2-19) visiting Woodward-Granger (7-14). The winner visits No. 13 Nodaway Valley Tuesday, with Earlham hosting Van Meter in the other bottom-half quarterfinal.

Sixth-ranked Panorama (20-1) awaits the winner of Interstate-35 (6-12) and Colfax-Mingo (7-14), in Panora, Tuesday. Pleasantville visits Central Decatur in the other quarterfinal.

Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) and Panora will be semifinal host sites Feb. 18, with the Regional Final Feb. 23 at a site to be determined.

Panorama has reached the Regional Final in three consecutive seasons, with a possible rematch with Nodaway Valley awaiting. The Wolverines hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to give the visiting Panthers their only loss of the season.

All games start at 7 p.m. All records are as of Feb. 9.
