A Perry man was arrested for assault Sunday evening after he allegedly assaulted his son and nephew while rampaging through their residence.
Benito Ramirez Jr., 41, of 2665 Summer Meadows Dr., Perry, was charged with third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault, assault-use or display of a dangerous weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The incident began about 5:15 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Summer Meadows Drive, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The officers arrived and found Ramirez allegedly “breaking things inside the house” and “being assaultive and threatening” toward the victims.
Ramirez allegedly approached one victim “with a pizza cutter and put it up to the left side of his neck and caused a long, red mark,” according to court records.
Officers observed on one of the victims “blood, cuts and marks on his body and face from
the physical assault that took place between” him and Ramirez. The other victim “had a cut on his left hand,” according to court records.
While Ramirez was being processed at the Perry Police Department booking room, he made threatening statements, saying he would “break the no-contact order, come back and slit his nephew’s throat” and “would put a bullet in his nephew’s head,” according to court records.
Ramirez also began “physically self harming himself, by slamming his head against the side of the wall located inside the Perry Police Department booking room,” according to court records. His actions “left three holes on the north side of the wall.”
Ramirez is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 21 in Dallas County District Court.
Ramirez was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 1998 in Tama County District Court. He was convicted of domestic abuse assault without intent to cause injury in 2003 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault in 2005 in Dallas County District Court.
