Audrey Nicholle Husted, 42, of Waukee was arrested Sunday on charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and reckless use of a firearm.

A Waukee woman was arrested Sunday night after allegedly discharging a firearm near her neighbor and his dogs and then holding the gun to the neighbor’s head.

Audrey Nicholle Husted, 42, of 2791 W Ave., Waukee, was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and reckless use of a firearm.

The incident began about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of W Avenue, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of shots fired.

The victim told the officers “that he had taken his dogs out to use the bathroom” when Husted, the next-door neighbor, allegedly “grabbed a .22 long gun rifle and pointed it towards the ground and towards his dogs and fired three shots,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers “that his dogs ran back inside his residence, and he followed them” and “then went back outside to speak to” Husted, whom he found “pacing back and forth in her driveway with the rifle still in hand,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that Husted allegedly “‘cracked’ while speaking to” him and “pointed the rifle to his head” in such a way that “the barrel of the gun was touching his forehead,” according to court records.

Husted “admitted to firing the three shots,” according to court records, and she told the officers that “she probably pointed the gun at the victim but couldn’t remember because she was so mad.”

The victim told the officers that “he feared for his life and froze when the gun was pointed at him.”

Husted is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,300 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
