Tornado watch in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday

The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a tornado watch until 1 a.m. Tuesday for the Perry area and much of central Iowa.

Tornadoes are possible along with scattered large hail and very large hail events to 3 iin diameter possible, the NWS said.

Scattered wind gusts as high as 75 mph are possible.

Along with Perry, the cities under the tornado watch include Ackley, Adair, Adel, Algona, Allerton, Ames, Atlantic, Audubon, Bayard, Bedford, Belmond, Boone, Britt, Carlisle, Carroll, Casey, Chariton, Clarion, Corning, Corydon, Creston, Des Moines, Eagle Grove, Earlham, Early, Eldora, Emmestburg, Estherville, Exira, Fonda, Fontanelle, Forest City, Fort Dodge, Garner, Gilmore City, Greenfield, Guthrie Center, Hampton, Humboldt, Humeston, Indianola, Iowa Falls, Jefferson, Kanawha, Knoxville, Lake City, Lake Mills, Lake View, Lamoni, Laurens, Lenox, Leon, Manson, Marshalltown, Mont Ayr, New Market, Newton, Norwalk, Odebolt, Osceola, Panora, Pella, Pocahontas, Pomeroy, Rockwell City, Rolfe, Sac City, Schaller, Seymour, Stuart, Wall Lake, Waukee, Webster City and Winterset.
