A traffic stop in Adel early Monday led to a number of drug charges against an Indianola man.
Derrick Mathew Nestvedt, 39, of 6939 143rd Ave., Indianola, was arrested on 11th Street in Adel for unlawful possession of prescription drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, controlled substance violation, driving under suspension, OWI, failure to affix drug stamp, possession or carrying of dangerous weapon, failure to provide proof of financial liability and operation without registration card or plate.
The incident began about 2:15 a.m. Monday near the intersection of 11th and Greene streets in Adel, where a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff initiated a traffic stop on a 2010 Chevrolet Impala with expired tags.
The deputy made contact with the driver, Nestvedt, whose “signs of impairment were observed,” according to court records, and field sobriety tests were administered. A records check indicated that Nestvedt’s driver’s license was suspended.
A drug-sniffing dog gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, and a probable-cause search disclosed “more than 7 grams” of methamphetamine, marijuana and marijuana wax, “suspected Xanax pills” and a 9 millimeter pistol, according to court records.
Nestvedt is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 28 in Dallas County District Court.
Nestvedt was convicted of first-offense OWI in 2006 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of second-offense OWI in 2008 in Polk County District Court.
