The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service has ended the free-for-all school meals program and established new income guidelines for Free and Reduced meals for the 2022-2023 school year.

The federal government has ended its funding of free lunches for all students, the Perry Community School District announced Thursday.

As a result, the district will no longer be able to provide free lunches to all students. The PCSD will, however, continue to provide free breakfasts for all Perry students.

If you believe you qualify for Free or Reduced meals, then follow these steps:

  • Fill out a 2022-2023 Free and Reduced application.
  • Return the completed application to the Nutrition Department at the Perry Schools.
  • If you are a new applicant, consider returning the application prior to Aug. 22, 2022, in order to ensure eligibility for the first day of school.
  • Help your students locate and remember their 4-digit pin numbers.

If you do not qualify for Free or Reduced meals, follow these steps:

  • Deposit money into your student’s accounts.
  • Review Board Policy Code No. 710.4 for the meal charge policy.
  • Help your students locate and remember their 4-digit pin numbers.

Free and Reduced applications will be mailed to all households with students registered in the district by Aug. 4. Completed applications can be dropped off at any Perry school or mailed to: PCSD Nutrition Department, 1200 18th St., Perry, IA 50220.

All students will be asked to enter their 4-digit pin or scan their barcode into the point-of-service register when receiving their breakfast and lunch. Pin numbers can be found on your SchoolCafé.com account. Barcodes can be accessed through the SchoolCafé app on your smartphone.
