A Des Moines man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Wednesday in connection with a July 20 incident in West Des Moines in which he allegedly tried to run over the mother of his child and her two male friends with his 2015 Toyota Scion.
Donnie Franklin Scigliano Jr., 23, of 1103 Pleasant View Dr., Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-display or use a weapon, two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, eluding and person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon.
The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. July 20 at the Polo Clubs Apartments at 6201 E. P. True Parkway in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a physical fight in progress.
Witnesses told the officers that a dispute occurred on the apartment patio between Scigliano and the mother of his child, and Scigliano allegedly “struck the victim on the right side of her face with a punch unprovoked,” according to court records.
Witnesses also told the officers that Scigliano allegedly “drove his vehicle at” the female victim and her two male acquaintances “at a high rate of speed and nearly struck” them, according to court records.
The female victim told the officers that she believed Scigliano “was intending on striking her with the vehicle.”
Witnesses also told the officers that Scigliano allegedly “was armed with a switchblade-style knife while committing” the domestic abuse assault, according to court records.
Scigliano eluded law enforcement at the scene in his vehicle by traveling “at a very high rate of speed” although “several fully marked squad cars with lights and siren activated attempted to get the vehicle stopped but were ultimately unsuccessful,” according to court records.
A warrant for Scigliano’s arrest was ordered July 20 in Dallas County District Court and served July 29. Scigliano is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 2 in Dallas County District Court.
