A West Des Moines man was injured Monday when he was struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by Asif Hodzic of Waukee.

A Waukee man was arrested on a warrant Friday in connection with a Monday night incident in which he allegedly hit and injured a man with his car in the area of the Waukee Triangle and just kept going.

Asif Hodzic, 30, of 175 S.E. Stone Prairie Dr., Waukee, was charged with attempted murder and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

The incident occurred about 10 p.m. Monday on Sixth Street in Waukee, where Hodzic, driving a 2022 BMW 750XI, left a parking lot near Norm’s Pub and turned southbound on Sixth Street.

A 31-year-old West Des Moines man “was standing to the south of the BMW 750 in the southbound lane of Sixth Street,” and Hodzic allegedly “drove his vehicle south, striking” the victim and “causing serious bodily injury,” according to court records.

Hodzic allegedly “did not give his name, address or the registration number of the vehicle” and “did not attempt to render aid to” the victim “or attempt to arrange for transport or aid for” the victim.

According to court records, “A reasonable person would believe striking another individual with a vehicle may cause death,” and Hodzic “did commit an act by which he expected to set in motion a force or chain of events which will cause or result in the death of the other person.”

A warrant for Hodzic’s arrest was ordered Thursday and served Friday. Hodzic is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 9 in Dallas County District Court.
