Roadrunners rally to collect win against Hawks

TRURO, IA — Woodward-Granger scored the first two touchdowns Friday, but host Interstate-35 scored the final three and added a field goal as well to claim a 24-14 victory in non-district play.

The 24-14 victory lifted I-35 to 1-2 overall, with the loss giving W-G a 1-2 mark as well.

Carter Moran connected with Dane Polich on an 11-yard scoring pass and Brody Nardini ran in the two-point conversion for a quick 8-0 lead for W-G.

Moran scooted into the end zone on an 11-yard scamper a few minutes later to give the Hawks s 14-0 lead.

I-35 cut the gap to 14-7 after one play with a touchdown, then closed to within 14-10 at the half with a 27-yard field goal.

Two third quarter TDs for the home team created a 24-14 gap. The W-G offense could not sustain a scoring drive and the scored remained unchanged through the final home.

Moran was 20-fo-35 for 225 passing yard and one TD while throwing one interception.

Polich (10-137, 1 TD) and Nardini (6-45) were the primary targets, with Dylan McCaulley (3-38) and Max Dalton (1-5) also catching passes.

Moran (12-64, 1 TD) was the leading rusher for W-G. Also toting the pigskin was Oliver Potter (6-13), McCaulley (6-6), Nardini (1-3) and Brayden Simons (1-1).

Defensive statistics for the Hawks were not available.

W-G will host Eagle Grove (1-2) for Homecoming Friday. The Hawks opened their season with a 20-8 win over Madrid, with a 34-30 loss to host AC/GC and the 24-14 setback at I-35 following.

Eagle Grove lost, 48-20, at C-G-D before scoring a 30-20 win over MVAOCOU. West Central Valley was a 13-12 victor over Eagle Grove Friday.

The Hawks were 42-0 victors when the teams met last season.
