Perry cross country navigates course at AC/GC

GUTHRIE CENTER, IA — A trip to the AC/GC Invite was on the agenda for the Perry cross country teams, who had several runners turn in quality times.

AC/GC posted an impressive score of 22 to win the boys varsity race, with Perry fourth in the seven-team field at 120. IKM-Manning senior Caden Keller was the overall winner after finishing in 16 minutes, 38.46 seconds.

Yonas Andemichael (18:24.84), Thad Stewart (19:28.7) and Kyle Hernandez (21:20.27) were the first three Bluejays to finish, crossing in 5th, 15th and 27th, respectively. Bryce Anliker (22:49.54) and Aidan Carlson (23:26.73) were 35th and 38th to score as well for the Bluejays. Kyeo Augustine (39th, 23:27.2) and Chad Gray (42nd, 23:52.5) also ran for Perry.

AC/GC’s 38 points claimed the girls title, with Perry fifth of five at 111, with AC/GC sophomore Ava Campbell winning in 20:11.3.

Taryn Nehring was 17th in 23:55.75 to lead the Jayettes, with Mylah Meis 20th in 25:16.06 and Julie Maylum 22nd in 25:30.28. Amy Diaz (223rd, 25:33.42) and Mercedes Ponce (29th, 28:55.42) completed the scoring five, with Amy Aguirre (34th, 37:15.19) in action as well.

The Perry boys scored 20 points in the two-mile middle school race, in which teams scored their first four finishers.

Thomas Clark-Obbink was second in 13:35.8, George Krohn was fifth in 14:20.55 and Ivan Willett sixth in 14:29.69 for Perry. Gavin Leslie crossed seventh in 14:32.91, with Edwyrd Stell 20th in 17:36.06 and Diego Diaz-Cardenas 22nd in 17:34.22.

Panorama edged Perry, 25-29, for girls middle school honors.

Perry’s Lily Myers was the first finisher, breaking the tape in 14:09.78. Harper Peterson was not far behind, crossing fifth in 16:08.26. Ellie Hughes (11th, 17:04.72), Payton Pierchbacher (12th, 18:16.85) and Aleah Karolus (13th, 19:15.87) ran for the Jayettes, as did Fiorella Oliver (14th, 19:26.86), Jadelyn Hoffman (23:55.68), Haley Nelson (23:56.06) and Selene Ayala (26:10.44).

Perry’s next action will be Thursday when they host the annual Leon Fox Invitational at the Perry Golf and Country Club. Teams expected to compete include ADM, Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, Boone, DC-G, DM Christian, DM North, Greene County, Kuemper Catholic, Roland-Story, Saydel, and Winterset.
