A crew from TNT Mobile Blasting of Goodell, Iowa, set to work Thursday to repaint the Reconfiguration Archway in downtown Perry.
Built in 2002, the arches grace the front and back entrances to Soumas Court. They were designed by the American sculptor Albert Paley from found objects that represent the agricultural, manufacturing and transportation history of Perry.
Paley also supervised the arches’ construction, with local welders Jim Von Behren and Bob Renzee bonding the mild steel and stainless steel implements into arches 25 feet high and 30 feet wide.
Tina Summers of TNT Mobile Blasting said the arches were last painted in 2004. The repainting project was an initiative of the city of Perry, Perry Economic Development Inc. and Hometown Heritage.
