WOODWARD, IA — Woodward-Granger poured in 55 points to blast visiting NW Webster Friday in the regular season capper for both.
W-G (5-3, 3-2 in Class 1A D2) will host West Central Valley (5-3, 3-2, 1A D7) at 7 p.m. Friday in the first round of the playoffs. NW Webster fell to 1-7, 1-4 with the loss.
Brody Nardini scored on a one-yard plunge and Dane Polich caught a 20-yard TD pass from Carter Moran, with a Jalen Trudeau conversion putting the Hawks in front, 14-0, early.
A seven-yard Oliver Potter run and Abraham Bell PAT moved the margin to 21-0 before the period ended and the rout was on.
Otter added a two-yard run and McCaulley an eight-yard TD as the advantage swelled to 34-0, with Collin Nardini scoring on a short dive to make the halftime score 41-0.
Brayden Simons returns an interception to the Cougar five-yard line, from where Moran scored for a 48-0 gap. McCaulley capped the W-G scoring with an eight-yard run. Bell finished the game connecting on five of his seven attempted PAT boots.
The Cougars avoided the shut out with a 41-yard aerial strike in the fourth quarter.
Moran was 8-of-15 for a touchdown and 115 yard. Polich (3-54, 1 TD), Brody Nardini (2-16), Ethan Moats (1-22), and McCaulley (2-24) all caught passes for the hosts.
Ten different carried the ball a total of 33 times, amassing 257 yards and seven TDs. McCaulley (11-92, 2 TDs), Moran (7-66, 1 TD), Oliver Potter (5-53, 2 TDs) and CJ Peterson (2-29) led the way. Oscar Potter (1-8), Talen Fuson (1-3), Collin Nardini (2-3, 1 TD), Brayden Simons (1-2), Holden Heard (2-0), and Brody Nardini (1-1, 1 TD) also toted the pigskin.
Simons, Polich, Moran, Brody Nardini, and Chandler Drake all came away with interceptions, with Oliver Potter, Simons, and Drake each recovering a fumble.
