Asif Hodzic, , 30, of Waukee was arrested Tuesday on a charge of first-offense OWI.

A Waukee man facing an attempted-murder charge from August was arrested for drunk driving late Tuesday in Waukee.

Asif Hodzic, 30, of 175 S.E. Stone Prairie Dr., Waukee, was charged with first-offense OWI.

The incident began about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday on S.E. Booth Drive near S.E. L.A. Grant Parkway in Waukee, where an officer of the Waukee Police Department observed a 2022 BMW 750 “travel on the wrong side of the road and then momentarily stopped
in the middle of the road,” according to court records.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, made contact with the driver, Hodzic, and “observed multiple indicators of impairment,” according to court records.

Hodzic allegedly failed standard field sobriety tests, and a preliminary breath test “showed a blood alcohol content well over the legal limit,” according to court records.

Hodzin was arrested Aug. 26 on charges of attempted murder, serious injury by vehicle and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident. In the incident, Hodzic allegedly hit and injured a man with his car in the area of the Waukee Triangle and just kept going.

In a motion, the Dallas County Attorney’s office, noting that since his August arrest Hodzic has now “been arrested on a subsequent charge of operating while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle on the wrong side of a highway,” asked the court to increase Hodzic’s bail amount because both cases “involve alcohol and a motor vehicle,” and he “has demonstrated that he continues to be a threat to the safety of the community,” according to court records.

Hodzic is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $75,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a hearing in the attempted-murder case Nov. 4 in Dallas County District Court and a preliminary hearing in the OWI case Nov. 7 in Dallas County District Court.
