GUTHRIE CENTER, IA — Woodward-Granger school history was made Thursday when freshman Eva Fleshner became the first Hawk harrier to qualify for the state cross country meet.
Fleshner will run Friday at 10:30 in the girls 1A Finals at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge. She earned her invitation by finishing third in a 73-runner field at a qualifying meet hosted by AC/GC.
Earlham won the team title with 28 points, with W-G fourth of nine at 115, Earlham’s MacKenzie Harper won in 20 minutes, 20 seconds, with Fleshner third in 21:06.
Joining Fleshner in scoring were Danika Leuenberger (26th, 24:13), Chloe Creger (27th, 24:25), Jaidyn Achenbach (28th, 24:26) and Libby Grell (31st, 24:44).
Adysen Churchill (35th, 25:10) and Talia Wright (45th, 27:33) ran as well for W-G.
Host AC/GC won the boys side with 35 points as W-G placed eighth of 11 at 222. Caden Keller of IKM-Mann was the titleist in 16:29.
Cael Leighton (20:05, Dillon Limoges (20:34) and Healey Hill (20:59) were 34-41-47 as the first three Hawk boys across the line. The five scorers also included Carsten Wright (49th, 21:22) and Sterling Parkinson (51st, 21:26).
Alex Younts (54th, 21:46) and Aiden Topalovich (57th, 22:00) made the circuit for the Hawk boys as well.
