Former Perry man pleads guilty to sexually abusing minor in 2008

Aaron James Griffin, 37, of Georgetown, Texas, pleaded guilty Friday to counts counts of third-degree sexual abuse that occurred between Jan. 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2008.

A former Perry man pleaded guilty Friday in Dallas County District Court to sexual abusing a girl from Perry about 15 years ago.

Aaron James Griffin, 37, of 2004 Perkins Pl., Georgetown, Texas, was originally charged in September 2021 with five counts of third-degree sexual abuse for incidents occurring in Perry between 2006 and 2008, when the victim was between 12 and 14 years old and Griffin was between 20 and 22 years old.

In an agreement reached with the Dallas County Attorney’s office, Griffin pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse that occurred between Dec. 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2008.

“I made the choice to engage in a sex act with” the victim, Griffin told Dallas County District Court Judge Thomas Murphy, “while she was aged 14 or 15 and I was over 8 years older at that time.”

Each count of third-degree sexual abuse carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment, 10 years’ parole, a fine up to $13,660, submission of DNA to the DNA database, Sex Offender Registry registration, exclusion zones and employment limitations and victim restitution.

Under the terms of the agreement with the Dallas County Attorney, Griffin will receive two years’ probation, 10 years’ parole, sex offender treatment, a fine of $1,370, submission of DNA to the DNA database, Sex Offender Registry registration, exclusion zones and employment limitations and victim restitution. His probation would be managed by the Texas Department of Corrections.

Griffin will be sentenced Jan. 6, 2023, in Dallas County District Court.
