The Perry City Hall announced this week the appointment of Mike Landals as the new superintendent in the Public Works Department.

Landals has more than 17 years of experience in public works and most recently held the role of municipal maintenance worker for the city of Perry.

The Perry native and veteran of the U.S. Army has lived in the community for more than 55 years and graduated from Perry High School. He earned a degree in tool and die from the Des Moines Area Community College. He also has more than 40 years’ experience in the concrete industry.

“I am extremely excited to begin my new role as Public Works Superintendent,” Landals said. “Having grown up in Perry, this is an amazing opportunity, and I am so fortunate to be able to work for the city of Perry. I am proud to be able to take my experience and skills to the next level. We have a great team in our departments, which I am forever grateful for.”

Public Works Director Josh Wuebker said Landals is the right person for the job.

“Mike will be able to continue building the strong foundation in place for the Public Works Department,” Wuebker said. “Mike has so much talent and knowledge in the construction industry and is looked up to and well respected by his fellow employees.”

Landals will be responsible for planning and administering the day-to-day activities for the Perry Street and Sanitation Departments along with coordinating in-house projects, overseeing the maintenance of equipment and vehicles and assisting in annual budgeting and equipment replacement.
