William ‘Bill’ Joy of Perry

William “Bill” Joy, 79, of Iowa City and formerly of Perry passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at the Legacy Memory Care in Iowa City, Iowa.

His memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.

William “Bill” Hall Joy was born Jan. 4, 1943, in Perry, Iowa, to Charles Irving and Loraine (Farr) Joy.

He graduated from Perry High School and then went to the University of Iowa.

Bill was united in marriage to Connie Rae Kiger at the United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Iowa, on June 12, 1966.

He worked as a private practice lawyer and partner at Joy-Poffenberger-Joy Attorneys at Law for 27 years. He was also a District Court Judge for 5th Judicial District for 27 years.

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Perry Rotary Club, Central Iowa Garden Club Railway Society, Motor Ioway, Board of Directors at the Perry Public Library, Dallas County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

He enjoyed collecting firearms, antique cars, steam engines and garden railroads.

In death he rejoins his parents, Charles and Loraine Joy; and a sister, Virginia Joy Poffenberger.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife, Connie Joy; children, John Joy, Susan Joy and Patricia (David) Sutton; grandson, Gehrig Sutton; and a brother, James Joy.

Memorials will be given to Alzheimer’s Association or the Perry Area Food Pantry and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
