An Adel man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly assaulting an Adel woman in their home.

Jared Anthony Tornow, 48, of 875 S. 16th St., Adel, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and obstruction of emergency communications.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of S. 16th Street, where officers of the Adel Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that she was allegedly “grabbed and pushed down” by Tornow in the course of a domestic dispute, according to court records.

A witness confirmed the victim’s account, according to court records.

The victim also told the officers that she “attempted to call 911 but had the phone taken from her by” Tornow, according to court records.

As he was being transported to the Dallas County Jail, Tornow said to the officers that “this will teach her a lesson,” but “he did not explain” what he meant by the statement, according to court records.

Tornow is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 23 in Dallas County District Court.
