Three performances of the Perry High School spring musical, “Matilda,” have been announced: Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Perry Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and are available online and at the door.
“Matilda” is a children’s novel by the British author Roald Dahl that was first published in 1988. A film version was produced in 1996, and the musical version premiered in 2010 and now comes to Perry High School. It is often ranked among the all-time-best children’s novels.
The story revolves around Matilda Wormwood, a precocious child with uncaring parents, who develops telekinetic powers as a result of her experience with Miss Trunchbull, the bullying leader of her school.
The PHS Drama Department is led by Randy Peterson, and the PHS Vocal Music Department is directed by Jenn Nelson. The 17-piece pit orchestra is conducted by PHS Instrumental Music Director Blaine Schmidt.
