The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday for the Perry area and much of southeastern Iowa.
The NWS said there is an enhanced to moderate risk of severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening, with tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds all possible.
Storms are expected to be fast-moving and if tornadoes develop, they may quickly become strong.
In addition, strong winds are expected Tuesday night, with gusts near 45 mph from time to time, the NWS said.
