An Urbandale man was arrested Thursday on a Dallas County warrant in connection with an incident in February in which he allegedly assaulted two men in a Waukee bar.
Owen Christopher Topliff, 25, of 15703 Winston Ave., Urbandale, was charged with willful injury causing bodily injury and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 in the 400 block of Sixth Street in Waukee, where Topliff allegedly struck a Johnston man “in the face with a closed fist several times” and “did utilize a pool cue to strike” a West Des Moines man “in the top of the head” before also striking him “three times in the face with a closed fist,” according to court records.
Once the first victim “fell to the ground,” Topliff allegedly “straddled” his body “and struck him three more times in the face with a closed fist,” leaving the victim with a concussion as well as “bruising and cuts to his face,” according to court records.
The victim struck with the pool cue “did lose consciousness” during the attack and “did complain of dizziness for two weeks after” the attack, and his “eye required stiches” as a result of the attack, according to court records.
A warrant for Topliff’s arrest was ordered March 9 in Dallas County District Court and served April 6. He is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
