Juan Daniel Silva-Nuno, 28, of Perry was arrested Tuesday on charges of controlled substance violation, eluding, false imprisonment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Perry man was arrested on drug charges late Tuesday after leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit through northern Dallas and southern Boone counties.

Juan Daniel Silva-Nuno, 28, of 908 Pattee St., Perry, was charged with controlled substance violation, eluding, false imprisonment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Iowa Highway 141, where an officer of the Perry Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by Silva-Nuno, in connection with a theft investigation at a Perry convenience store.

The officer activated the emergency lights on the patrol vehicle in order to initiate the stop, and Silva-Nuno “proceeded to pull to the side of the highway,” according to court records. When the officer exited the patrol vehicle in order to make contact with Silva-Nuno, Silva-Nuno put his Ford “in drive, and began to attempt to elude” the officer “at high speeds on Highway 141.”

After a 24-minute pursuit that reached speeds of 105 mph, Silva-Nuno attempted to elude law enforcement on foot and was taken into custody without incident in southwest Boone County.

A probable-cause search of Silva-Nuno’s vehicle disclosed “multiple glass pipes used for methamphetamine, digital scales with residue, and multiple small plastic baggies consistent with narcotic sales,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with a female passenger from Perry in Silva-Nuno’s vehicle, and she told the officers that she told Silva-Nuno “multiple times to stop” and “to let her out of the vehicle,” to which Silva-Nuno allegedly replied, “Shut up,” according to court records.

Silva-Nuno is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 21 in Dallas County District Court.
