Some of the best news shared at the Perry School Board’s annual summer retreat was the Perry Elementary School’s significantly increased test scores on Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP), numbers that have grown steadily for three consecutive years in science, math and reading.

“This accomplishment underscores the school’s commitment to academics and the hard work of its students, educators and staff,” said School Board President Linda Andorf.

While the ISASP scores serve as only one benchmark in assessing student progress and academic performance, the Perry Elementary School’s consistent growth in student achievement showcases the collective efforts and commitment to academics from its staff.

Each year, students at the three Perry schools — the elementary, middle and high schools — spend several days taking the ISASP exams. Perry’s progress on test scores came when nationwide test scores have fallen as a result of the significant learning loss caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The jump in the Perry Elementary School’s scores was so notable that it led to the school’s nomination in the spring as a high-performing school. The formal announcement of the award and details of the scores is expected in the fall, but as celebration for the Perry Elementary School students and staff is planned for later this summer, according to district authorities.

The Perry School Board extended its thanks for the exceptional efforts of the teachers and students at the Perry Elementary School, and PCSD Superintendent Clark Wicks commended the teachers’ skills, passion and commitment to nurturing the young minds, which have led to the remarkable growth and achievements at the Perry Elementary School.

“The consistent growth in test scores at Perry Elementary School is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers and staff,” Wicks said. “It is a reflection of their commitment to providing a positive and engaging learning environment. We are extremely proud of their achievements and the positive impact they have on our students and our community.”

Their skills, passion, and commitment to nurturing the young minds of our students have been integral to the remarkable growth and achievements of Perry Elementary School.

Fall registration in the PCSD is now open and available online.
