Visitors are greeted at the door at the 2023 DCH Senior Health, Lifestyle and Wellness Fair.

Back after a COVID-forced hiatus, the Dallas County Hospital Senior Health, Lifestyle and Wellness Fair is hosting more than 20 vendors Wednesday on the hospital’s second-floor atrium.

The fair lasts until 2 p.m., with vendors of senior services on hand with information, advice — and free prizes! Dallas County Hospital Foundation volunteer Donna Emmert will provide each visitor with a bingo-like card that makes one eligible to win.

Older adults are the fastest growing market in the U.S., and the transition into old age and retirement living is significantly different from what it was in the past, with improved healthcare, wellness options, educational opportunities, travel and technology enhancements offering an enriched longevity.

Marketers of senior services are aware that:

  • The 60+ consumer is more affluent, educated and active than ever before.
  • Adults 50+ control more than 50 percent of the discretionary income.
  • About 10,000 people turn 65 each day, and by 2030 18% of the U.S. population will be at least that age.
  • National sources indicate that 80 percent of older adults are homeowners, and 65 percent of older adult homeowners have paid off their mortgages.

The 2023 DCH Senior Health, Lifestyle and Wellness Fair is presented by Aging Resources of Central Iowa and McAninch Corp., with additional sponsorship from 21st Century Rehab, Carris Funeral Home, Graham Construction, Purdue Global, Medigold, Happier at Home Accura Healthcare of Ogden and UHC.
