A West Des Moines teenager was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly threatening and shooting a pistol at other people in a park.
Isaac Joseph Schoessler, 19, of 9005 Bridgewood Blvd., West Des Moines, was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, reckless use of a firearm and use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime.
The incident began about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at a park in the 200 block of 88th Street in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of shots fired.
The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Schoessler came to the park and began “asking to fight for money,” according to court records. He then “left and returned shortly after” and allegedly “punched the victim in the back of the head.”
Schoessler than allegedly “produced a handgun, pointing it at the back of the victim’s head,” according to court records. The victim and several witnesses then fled the scene, and Schoessler allegedly “fired one round, striking a vehicle.”
One shell casing was located at the scene, according to court records.
The officers took Schoessler into custody, and the “firearm was located under a flower pot,” according to court records.
Schoessler is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 31 in Dallas County District Court.
Schoessler was arrested in West Des Moines in 2020 on charges of attempted murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, assault while participating in a felony, going armed with intent and carrying weapons. The case is pending in Polk County District Court.
