
The Perry Community School District welcomed 16 new teachers for the 2023-2024 school year to an orientation program Tuesday, with 11 of the new district employees will be working at the Perry Elementary School or Perry Child Development Center.
Classes start Tuesday, Aug. 23 for the following new teachers:
- Codi Allen, a graduate of Iowa State University, will teach seventh grade special education.
- Caitlin Bennett, a graduate of Iowa State University, will teach preschool.
- Kayla Cook, the youngest of three, will teach English in the Perry Community School District.
- Noah Erickson, a 2020 graduate from the University of Iowa, will teach high school English.
- Emily Fjestad, a graduate of Iowa State University, will teach seventh grade social studies.
- Drew Hansen, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, will teach physical education at the Perry Elementary School.
- Elle Helmkamp, whose experience includes a summer of teaching in Honduras, will teach preschool in Perry.
- Maribel Hernandez, a PHS graduate with a degree from Iowa State University, will teach Spanish.
- Robyn Horak, a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, will teach seventh grade mathematics.
- Sam Kornstad, a graduate of Cornell College, will teach fourth grade.
- Sara Koster, a graduate of South Dakota State University, will teach first grade.
- Jordan Kovac, an Iowa State Cyclone, will teach sixth grade reading.
- Thomas McMullin, who has a master’s degree in divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary, will teach fifth grade.
- Carlos Preciado, an Iowa State Cyclone, will teach history at Perry High School.
- Lindsey Snakenberg, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, will teach third grade at the Perry Elementary School.
- Amy Theulen, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, will be teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) at the Perry Elementary School.
