Last year the Dallas County Hospital (DCH) generated 232 jobs that added $12,222,787 to Dallas County’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA).
DCH also supported approximately 40,000 patients in the community by providing $1,250,000 in community benefits, the IHA said. This support helped to ensure that cost did not prohibit these individuals from accessing care at DCH.
“Thousands of individuals and families understand and seek out the highly reputable medical care Dallas County Hospital provides our communities,” said Dallas County Hospital CEO Angela Mortoza. “What this care equates to in terms of economic growth for the communities we touch, along with employment opportunities for so many, is lesser known but also invaluable. We are proud to provide patients an inclusive and equitable care experience along with care coordination, financial counseling and more. Dallas County Hospital plays different roles in countless people’s lives, and for that we are proud to present this year’s community benefits figures and celebrate our impact.”
The IHA study was compiled from hospital-submitted data to the American Hospital Association’s annual survey of hospitals. The study found that Iowa hospitals employed 145,252 people in 2022. As an income source, hospitals provided over $9.3 billion in wages, and hospital expenses accounted for over $21.5 billion of Iowa’s gross domestic product.
“Iowa’s hospitals and health systems implemented the programs and services accounted for in this study in response to their communities’ needs,” said IHA President and CEO Chris Mitchell. “Many of these programs and services wouldn’t exist without hospital support and leadership. These efforts, with IHA’s advocacy, help ensure the financial stability of hospitals, making it possible for them to provide the services and programs
most-needed by the people they serve.”
The Iowa Hospital Association is a voluntary membership organization representing hospital and health system interests to business, government and consumer audiences.
