The Perry Fine Arts Concert Series will begin its fall season Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. when the Swen-Tone Trio plays play many rock, pop and country favorites from the 1960s and ’70s at the Perry Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
The Swen-Tone Trio includes Dave Swenson on guitar. Swenson taught orchestra and music theory in Boone for 35 years, retiring in 2016. He has played violin and viola in the Iowa State Orchestra and the Central Iowa Symphony and guitar and bass in the Reflections, the Bill Martin Group and the Boone Big Band. Swenson currently plays many solo programs.
Drummer Paul Navara taught instrumental music for 32 years, serving the communities of Eddyville and Boone before retiring in 2012. He has played professionally with 35 different bands throughout the Midwest and is celebrating his 53rd year of gigging. Navara resides in Grimes.
Bassist Austin Lutes-Swenson learned to play cello and string bass in the Boone Orchestra program and went on to play in the Luther College Symphony and the Luther College Jazz Band. He has played cello in a string trio with his father and sister for many weddings and played string bass in the Central Iowa Symphony. Lutes-Swenson has also played electric bass with Almost Perfect, the Bill Martin Group, the Central Iowa Jazz Band and the Justin Elliot Band. He’s currently gigging with the Corey Highland Band and the Swen-Tone Trio.
The Perry Fine Arts concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are accepted. The Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.

January 21, 2024. Glenda & Mike Mann, Magic and ventriloquism at 2:00 PM
March 1, 2024. Des Moines Metropolitan Opera. “Beauty and the Beast” at 7 p.m., with an afternoon performance for the third graders of “Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing” at 1 p.m.
April 21, 2024. Carol Montague, singer and songwriter at 2 p.m.
July 4, 2024. Musical Extravaganza and Ice Cream Social at 2 p.m.
All concerts will be at the Performing Arts Center at the Perry High School at 1800 18th Street, except for the Tuba Christmas in Honor of Bill Bell and the Fourth of July Extravaganza which will be at the Perry First United Methodist Church, 1100 3rd Street. Both venues are handicapped accessible and free will offerings are accepted.
