Donna Meyer, 89, of Perry passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at the Spring Valley Camus of the Perry Lutheran Homes, surrounded by family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 5 from 5-7 p.m., with a Rosary held at 7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel, Iowa, at 2 p.m.
Donna was born to George M. (Judd) St. John and Elizabeth (Carroll) St. John on Jan. 30, 1934.
She attended schools in Algona at Bryant Elementary, New Hampton High School and St. Joseph Catholic School. Donna graduated from St. Cecelia Academy in 1951.
Following graduation, she became a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell in Algona and transferred to Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in Oceanside, California. Donna also held jobs at the Algona Reminder and in Perry at the Gambles store, as the proofreader at the Perry Daily Chief, bookkeeper at the Progressive Foundry and for 20 years as an Avon representative.
She was the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation Mother of the Year in 1976.
Donna was married to Donald Martin Meyer in 1952 in Oceanside, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth, and George (Judd) St. John; husband, Donald (Marty) Meyer; and brother, Perry St. John.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Becky (Kim) Whiton of Mediapolis, Iowa; son, Blaine (Diane) Meyer of W. Lafayette, Indiana; Karen (Randy) Goughnour of Omaha, Nebraska; Craig (Becky) Meyer of Pella and Scott (Cara) Meyer of Pella; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
