Jayette swimmers split honors with Oskaloosa, NCMP

The Perry High School swim team hosted the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella (NCMP) Aquagirls and Oskaloosa Indians Tuesday night at the McCreary Community Building in Perry.

The PHS swimmers set three personal best times in individual events, two personal best leadoff relay legs and one school record. The Jayettes are now 10-2 for the season.

The format of Tuesday’s meet had swimmers complete once, with the meet scored three ways. Each team was allowed two entries per event. The final scores were :

Perry High School 93 to Oskaloosa 67
NCMP Aquagirls 97 to Perry 65
NCMP Aquagirls 115 to Oskaloosa 45

Medley Relay
Cali Hernandez, Jenna Nelson, Jazmine Johnson, Lydia Nelsen. 2:34.52, 4th against Newton, 3rd against Osky
Madeline McDevitt, Addison Huntington, Lilly Riley, Emily Dowd, 2:16.95, 3rd against NCMP, 2nd against Osky

200 Freestyle
Jenna Nelson, 2:19.20, 3rd against NCMP, 2nd against Osky
Quin Mahler-Moreno, 1:59.41, 1st overall

200 Individual Medley
Addison Huntington, 2:48.20, 3rd against NCMP, 2nd against Osky
Sophia McDevitt, 2:24.18, 2nd against NCMP, 1st against Osky

Emily Dowd, 28.60, 4th against NCMP, 2nd against Osky, personal best time, -.24 sec
Aleah Karolus, 26.84, 1st overall, tied her personal best time

100 Fly

Cali Hernandez, 2nd against NCMP, 1st against Osky, personal best time, dropping -1.03 seconds

Lilley Riley, 1:01.40, 4th against NCMP, 2nd against Osky
Quin Mahler-Moreno, 54.86, 1st overall, personal best time, dropping -1.33 seconds, setting a new school record previously held by Jaylene Karolus since 2021.

500 Freestyle
Jazmine Johnson, 7:22.64, in her high school debut in this event, 4th overall
Emily Dowd, 6:19.34, 3rd against NCMP, 1st against Osky

200 Freestyle Relay
Aleah Karolus, Lilley Riley, Sophia McDevitt, Quin Mahler-Moreno, 1:46.76, 2nd against NCMP, 1st against Osky, with a season best relay time. Karolus’ leg of the relay was a personal best time for her.

100 Backstroke
Maddie McDevitt, 1:22.09, 4th overall
Jenna Nelson, 1:17.38, 3rd overall

100 Breaststroke
Lydia Nelsen, 2:01.82, 4th overall, in the high school debut in this event.
Addison Huntington, 1:23.25, 3rd against NCMP, 2nd against Osky

400 Freestyle Relay
Emily Dowd, Cali Hernandez, Madeline McDevitt, Jasmine Johnson, 4:48.67, 4th against NCMP, 3rd against Osky
Aleah Karolus, Lilly Riley, Sophia McDevitt, Quin Mahler-Moreno, 3:56.38, 2nd against NCMP, 1st against Osky with a season best relay time. Karolus had a personal best time in the leadoff leg of the relay.

The Jayettes will next swim with seven other schools Saturday at Ames High School.
