Mitchell Joseph Hines, 84, of Des Moines passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, while under the care of Hospice of the Midwest.
Mitchell was born April 29, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to John and Dorothy (Murphy) Hines. He proudly served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his twin brother, Michael Hines; daughter, Ellyn (Sam) Poston; sons, Mitchell (Grace) Hines II and John Hines; granddaughter, Angel Mosby; great-granddaughter, Trista (Zack) Templeton; stepchildren, Laurena (Larry) Stanley, Ron Ollerich, Rob Kerian and Michael Frazier; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines. Visitation began at 10 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors took place at Laurel Hill Cemetery following the funeral.
