Perry City Hall, School Board gain two new voices each

Perry’s city government and school board will each see two new members sworn in next month after area voters expressed their wills at the polls Tuesday.

Dirk Cavanaugh won the mayoral race, outdistancing fellow first-time officeseeker Sir A. W. Adams II by a vote of 529 to 82 with four write-in votes.

The Perry City Council’s third-ward incumbent Barb Wolling was elected to a fourth term, garnering 115 votes to candidate Keith Nichols’ 70 votes.

First-time candidate Ervin Joseph Shelly earned 200 votes in his unopposed campaign for the first-ward seat. Longtime at-large Perry City Council member Chuck Schott easily won reelection with 523 votes and second-ward incumbent Jeremy Mahler secured reelection with 154 votes.

In the races for school board, Dallas County voters residing in the Perry Community School District returned eight-year incumbent and current PCSD School Board President Linda Andorf to office for a third term. Andorf led all candidates among Dallas County voters with 456 votes out of the 2,009 total votes cast in the county.

Also elected were Joe Tuhn, who came in second in the voting totals with 446 votes in Dallas County, and Max Christensen who was third with 406 votes. Candidates Mindy Farmer earned 401 votes, and Jacob Ballard gained 294 votes in the county.

Of the votes cast by Boone County voters who reside in the PCSD, Andorf received 18 votes, Ballard 8, Christensen 21, Farmer 21 and Tuhn 27. Additionally, Andorf, Farmer and Tuhn each received two votes among Greene County voters who reside in the PCSD.

The vote counts will be unofficial until certified. Officeholders will be sworn in in December.
