Perry volleyball team finishes 3-3 at Knoxville Invitational

KNOXVILLE — The Jayette netters made their annual trip to the Knoxville Invitational Saturday where they posted a 3-3 mark against five schools not normally on Perry’s schedule.

All six of Perry’s matches were decided in two sets. Perry defeated Albia, 21-13 and 21-13, topped Grinnell, 21-19 and 21-16, and bested Knoxville, 21-13 and 21-13. PCM downed Perry, 21-20 and 21-11, with Iowa Falls-Alden scoring a 21-12 and 21-14 win while ADM stopped Perry behind scores of 21-14 and 21-18.

Ellie Nielsen’s 37 combined kills led Perry, with Jo Diw adding 35 kills and Adrian Thompson 12. Victoria Hegstrom tallied seven kills and Taylor Lathrum six, with Sid Vancil making three kills. Vancil had 79 assists, with Thompson’s three assists representing the only others for Perry.

Nielsen also led the team in digs by recording 40. Vancil and Mariah Duffy had 22 digs apiece, Diw 21, Sydney Guerra 12, Hegstrom and Thompson three each and Lathrum two. Lathrun finished with two blocks, with Diw and Thompson making one each.

Diw served 45-of-53 with nine aces, with Hegstrom 28-33-4 and Nielsen 26-30-5 behind the line. Vancil finished 22-25-5, Lathrum 23-26-1, Guerra 14-19-2 and Thompson 8-12-1.
