The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a wind chill warning for the Perry area until noon Tuesday and a wind chill advisory from noon Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Arctic cold air has settled into central Iowa, with temperatures below zero and wind chills often near or in the 20s or 30s below zero even during the day.

This extreme Arctic air, combined with breezy winds at times, will continue to create dangerously cold conditions on Tuesday, with wind chill values as low as 35 below zero.

Although slightly warmer temperatures are forecast for Wednesday, very cold wind chills will continue as low as 25 degrees below zero.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Avoid outside activities if possible. If you must go outside or travel, make sure you wear appropriate clothing, layers, a hat and gloves.

Continue to check the latest road conditions prior to any travel in and around Iowa as crews continue to work to improve road conditions.

ThePerryNews.com will update this weather story as forecasts evolve.
