James “Jim” Vincent Quinn, 79, of Perry passed away Feb. 23, 2024, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Visitation was held Friday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. A luncheon was held at Hotel Pattee following the services. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Elkhorn, Nebraska, on Saturday, March 2 at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow at 11:30 a.m.
Jim was born on Oct. 16, 1944, in Elkhorn to John Byron and Veronica Goldie Grimm Quinn. Jim was the third of seven children.
He grew up on a dairy farm and developed a love for farming, which he pursued in both Nebraska and Iowa.
Jim graduated from high school in Elkhorn.
He served his country by joining the National Guard.
Jim went on to have a successful career at Northwestern Bell (now Century Link), where he was a member of management and retired from the company after more than 30 years.
Jim raised his sons, Brent and Brian, in Elkhorn and was a very proud father. He enjoyed attending their various sports and band activities.
Jim was involved with local groups in Elkhorn, such as being a charter member of the Elkhorn JayCees and a member of the Elkhorn Rural Fire Board.
Jim married Pam on June 26, 1992, in the Quinn family farm’s alfalfa field at sunset, and they embarked on the next 30+ years together. The years were filled with love for each other as well as family, friends, farming, lake life and traveling.
Jim especially enjoyed their time together at the Lake of the Ozarks, where Jim was captain of the Sea Ray as well as his well-loved pontoon. He enjoyed entertaining at the lake (who could forget Aquaman?) and spending time with family and friends.
Jim loved his Elkhorn/Nebraska roots (Go Huskers!), John Deere tractors and amazing trips with Pam and friends to Ireland, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Aruba and other places.
He also enjoyed friendship over a meal, drinks or coffee as well as attending tractor shows (Jim was a member of the Central Iowa Tractor Club), car shows (with his prized 1967 Mercury GTA) and his beloved trucking buddies, Ray and Les.
Jim treasured and looked forward to visiting his sons, Brent and Brian, along with their wives and his grandchildren. He was so proud of Aiden’s baseball skills, his accomplishments with ROTC and moving on to college.
He beamed with pride at Chloe’s basketball skills and was amazed at Carson’s abilities on the drums!
Jim was a dedicated fan for Tommy at soccer games and other sporting events. Jim also taught Tommy how to fish and even let him drive the boat and tractor.
Jim is survived by his wife, Pam; sons, Brian (Eryn) Quinn and Brent (Lori) Quinn; grandchildren, Aiden, Carson and Chloe Quinn and Thomas Anderson; siblings, Anna Marie Plambeck, Roger Quinn, Patty (Ken) Crawford, Betty (Bob) Trinco and Joyce (Greg) Suelter; many nieces and nephews and their children; and his beloved dog, Ellie.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Veronica (Goldie) Quinn; brother, Jackie Quinn; brother-in-law, Dennis Plambeck; and sister-in-law, Ellen Quinn.
