Serial assailant allegedly assaults Altoona woman Sunday

Makayla Marie Van Eaton, 22, of Waukee was arrested Sunday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

A Waukee woman with a record of assault convictions was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly assaulting an Altoona woman in Waukee.

Makayla Marie Van Eaton, 22, of 770 S.E. Harper Dr., Waukee, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 7:15 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of S.E. Harper Drive, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Van Eaton “became aggravated when she found out she had a warrant,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that Van Eaton “grabbed” the victim, “hit her in the face, ripped out hair from the back of her head and bit her,” according to court records.

Van Eaton is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

Van Eaton was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in January 2020 in Black Hawk County District Court. She was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations in February 2020 in Black Hawk County District Court. She was arrested on a charge of assault on persons in certain occupations in June 2022 in Waterloo, where she allegedly assaulted a hospital security guard when she “grabbed ahold of his beard and started pulling” and “would not let go” until she “pulled out parts of his beard,” according to court records. The case was dismissed by a Black Hawk County District Court judge. She was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury in April 2023 in Black Hawk County District Court after “assaulting a nurse by pulling her hair and shaking her prior to pulling her to the ground,” leaving the victim with “a concussion as well as whiplash,” according to court records.
