A Perry man was arrested Thursday on various drug and theft charges after attempting to elude warrant service by officers of the Perry Police Department.

Joshua John Ungs, 39, of 2811 Warford St., Perry, was charged with interference with official acts, two counts of third-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, failure to affix drug stamp, third-degree burglary, theft of lottery tickets, fourth-degree theft, two counts of fifth-degree theft, interference with official acts and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 3 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Iowa Highway 141, where officers of the Perry Police Department attempted to serve an arrest warrant to Ungs.

Ungs tried to flee from the officers on a bicycle but “was assisted to the ground” by the officers, according to court records. A search of his person disclosed items believed to be marijuana “wax” and a “meth pipe.”

The arrest warrant was ordered May 1 in Dallas County District Court in connection with incidents on April 30 in which Ungs allegedly first fled from law enforcement officers about 5:15 p.m. In his flight, Ungs allegedly abandoned a bag, a search of which disclosed marijuana and THC wax in “amounts” deemed “not normal for recreational use,” according to court records.

The bag contained a “small jar of wax weighing 87.0 grams” and “green, leafy” marijuana weighing “65.3 grams for a total of 152.3 grams,” according to court records.

Ungs was observed later that day at about 11:45 p.m. on security camera footage allegedly taking “multiple articles of lottery tickets from the premises” of a local convenience store, according to court records.

The total value of the stolen lottery tickets was $610, according to court records. Security camera footage from another local convenience store showed Ungs allegedly “scanning and cashing in two of the winning lottery tickets” in the early hours of May 1.

Ungs is held in the Dallas County Jail on an $18,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 13 in Dallas County District Court.
