A Boone man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Thursday in connection with a December incident in which he allegedly committed vehicular homicide on Iowa Highway 141 near Dawson.
Gary Bugger, 64, of 1204 Tama St., Boone, was charged with homicide by vehicle-OWI.
According to court records, Bugger was traveling westbound on Iowa Highway 141 near Dawson on the afternoon of Dec. 8, 2023, when the 2017 Dodge Ram pickup he was driving collided with a vehicle, driven by Daniel Royce Beattie, 56, of Audubon, who was traveling eastbound on a 2010 BMW motorcycle.
Bugger “admitted to smoking methamphetamines earlier in the day,” and meth was allegedly found in his bloodstream and “in his backpack, which was in the cab of the pickup,” according to court records.
Bugger is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 20 in Dallas County District Court.
Bugger was convicted of possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine in 2001 in Boone County District Court.
