A West Des Moines man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly punching a Des Moines woman in the course of a dispute.

Corey Dean Huettman, 55, of 1770 92nd St., West Des Moines, was charged with assault causing bodily injury and obstruction of emergency communications.

The incident began about 9 p.m. Thursday in the 14300 block of University Avenue, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of an assault.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Huettman allegedly “punched her while they were in the vehicle together,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that when she attempted to exit the vehicle and call 911, Huettman allegedly “tackled her to the ground and wrestled the phone away from her,” according to court records.

Huettman “denied punching the victim but admitted to tackling her to the ground and forcibly taking away her phone,” according to court records.

Huettman is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 20 in Dallas County District Court.
