Waukee man arrested for allegedly strangling wife Sunday

A Waukee man was arrested Sunday for allegedly strangling his wife in the home.

Abdelgadir Nasr Azrag, 41, of 1235 S.E. University Ave., Waukee, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood.

The incident began about 5:30 a.m. Sunday in a residence in the 1200 block of S.E. University Avenue, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Azrag “punched” the victim “in the mouth with a closed fist” and “then put both hands around her neck and began strangling her,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “a bleeding laceration to her neck” and “a bloody laceration to her inner lower lip,” according to court records.

Azrag is held in the Dallas County on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 24 in Dallas County District Court.

Azrag was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2022 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault in 2020 in Polk County District Court.
